Houses

Sting sings a song called Rock Steady that says: "We're safe as houses, as safe as mother's milk." That line strikes a cord with me. I waited until I was an adult to feel safe in my own home. Growing up, fear and instability were always on the periphery. I experienced long periods of happiness and comfort interspersed with eruptions of uncertainty-- just enough of them to keep a kid on edge.

The house pieces represent the instability imposed upon a child by the adults in his or her life.

The three-storied piece is called Excavation. The idea behind it is that one has to dig deep  to uncover happy memories.

The second piece is Tornado. It's meaning is true to its form.
